A company is not a stillhouse
A firm may be formed years before a production building is constructed. A new still can be commissioned after the business is legally established, and even the first successful spirit run must precede any fully matured whisky. When a label compresses all of that history into one founding year, the reader loses the identity of the milestone. WHISKAVIA therefore stores company formation, building, distillation and product launch as different event types.
Tormore: read the verb
Tormore's official account describes the Speyside distillery as built in 1959. That is a construction statement. It does not, by itself, establish the precise date of its first spirit run, the formation of every company associated with it, or the bottling of its first single malt. A chronological entry should reproduce the meaning of the source before promoting its year into a general historical claim.
Old Midleton and the later works
Irish Distillers connects Old Midleton's distilling history to 1825 and identifies the old operation as running until 1975. The company also describes 1975 expansion and the move of other Irish distilling houses to the Midleton site. Those facts refer to a linked history of buildings and businesses, not proof that the same machinery had operated unchanged for two centuries. A photograph of Old Midleton must not silently be labelled as the newer production complex.
Yamazaki: construction and release
Suntory dates the start of Yamazaki Distillery construction to 1923 and the launch of Suntory Whisky Shirofuda to 1929. The first date concerns infrastructure; the second is a release milestone. Those two documentary claims can coexist without determining a day of first distillation that the cited overview does not specify.
A transparent chronology
Before publishing a historical milestone, identify its subject, event type, date precision, location and primary evidence. When records differ, ask first whether they describe the same thing. Record disagreement or qualified uncertainty where necessary. A date without its verb is a slogan; a date with a source and a clearly defined event becomes reference information.
