Dates name different events
A founded date, construction date, first distillation, first sale, licence record and reopening can all be historically meaningful. They should not be silently merged into one corporate birthday.
Maturation is a separate timeline
The age of a whisky, where regulated and stated, describes time spent in qualifying maturation under the relevant rules. It does not date a distillery's founding or rank every whisky by quality. Bottling date and cask history may form further milestones.
Historical names change
Ownership transitions and former names complicate archives. One building may host several operations across decades; a brand may survive the closure of a production site. A good history connects records without erasing discontinuities.
Evidence makes history navigable
The Time Machine will place attributed events on timelines and display what each date actually documents. Conflicting dates remain traceable research questions until evidence resolves them.
