A precisely located story
Cardrona Distillery identifies its home as the Cardrona Valley in New Zealand's South Island. Its account dates the first spirit to October 2015 and the laying down of its first cask to November of that year. Those are distinct milestones and should remain distinct in any whisky timeline.
What happens in the stillhouse
Cardrona describes using malted barley, local water and copper pot stills for its single malt. It also describes maturation in casks with previous histories including sherry, bourbon and pinot noir. These examples show why individual processes matter more than an assumption about national style.
Do not turn weather into a score
The distillery reports strong seasonal changes in its alpine environment. Temperature and humidity are meaningful research questions for maturation, but a climate description alone cannot establish a bottled whisky's sensory character. Record production statements separately from independently observed tasting notes.
