Coordinates are not a history
The location of a present-day production site answers one question. It does not automatically establish where a brand began, where a predecessor operated, or where every historical bottle was made. A reliable atlas preserves these distinctions.
Regions need context
Regional names can be protected categories, customary geographic descriptions or informal ways of exploring landscapes. Their meanings vary by country. A single region label rarely describes every material, technique or flavour associated with its distilleries.
Travel is not proof of access
Seeing a distillery on a map does not mean it currently welcomes visitors. Opening times, tours and accessibility change. Travel information should be verified separately from the permanent historical and geographic record.
A connected place network
WHISKAVIA's Living Atlas is designed to connect documented sites, regional narratives, production histories and source evidence across the world. No country is excluded from the research universe because it falls outside a traditional whisky map.
