Many regions, many approaches
The French Whisky Federation's producer directory lists distilleries from Brittany and Normandy to the Alps, Grand Est, Occitanie and beyond. This is useful discovery evidence, but a directory listing should not by itself be presented as verified operating status or a certified whisky dossier.
Look beyond the label
The same national map can include single malts, grain-based expressions and spirits aged in casks with distinctive histories. The relevant legal product definitions should be checked in the market where a product is sold. A French production address, a brand owner and a bottling site are not interchangeable.
Build the atlas methodically
Each record should connect a named producer to its actual site, available source material, geographical location, significant dates and the claim's date of observation. The French map is a demonstration of why worldwide whisky discovery should not stop at familiar historical centres.
