Not only historic capitals
Whisky is made in more places than the best-known historic producing regions. Scotland, Ireland, the United States, Japan, India, Taiwan and other countries have developed different combinations of grains, stills, climate and maturation choices. A regional label is not a substitute for checking the actual rules and producer.
Compare definitions before styles
When comparing countries, start with the definition used in that market. Requirements for grain, minimum maturation, production location and labelling are not uniform. An expression that fits one country's whisky category may need different wording in another.
Place records belong to evidence
The Living Atlas is designed to connect each distillery to a place and a documented identity. Geographic stories remain editorial context until the individual site and its coordinates have been checked.
